The Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) is holding the Yazidi Women’s Renaissance Conference under the slogan “We will be the pioneers of a democratic and free society through organization and struggle.” Around two hundred Yazidi and Arab women are participating in the conference.
During the session titled “The Renaissance of the Yazidis and Women”, participants emphasized that Shengal holds a special place for the Yazidis in terms of faith and sanctity, and therefore could serve as a center of enlightenment,
Speaking to RojNews, Sûham Şengalî, a member of the Conference Preparatory Committee, stated that women are leading the way for Shengal’s democratic system, saying, “Just as Yazidi women led the way in organizing the Yazidi community, they will also be pioneers in the rebirth of the Yazidis from today onwards. We have received messages from Yazidi women abroad and those in North-East Syria. Shengal is the center of Yazidis’ intellectual and cultural work.”
Sûham Şengalî stated that women’s defense forces have developed and that women play a decisive role in both organization and defense.
Co-Chair of the Xanesor People’s Assembly, Nafya Mêşo, drew attention to Abdullah Öcalan’s recent messages, stating, “Freedom begins with thought. If a person is free in his/her thoughts, he/she is also free physically. We must organize ourselves based on Leader Öcalan’s messages. Yazidi women no longer accept slavery and oppression. They must reject slavery and say, ‘We exist too.’”
