Ahead of the inaugural meeting of a new parliamentary commission tasked with resolving the Kurdish question, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met with the coordinators appointed by the parliamentary groups on Monday for preliminary talks.
The meeting in the Turkish parliament was attended by, among others, the deputy chair of the DEM party, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, MHP deputy chair Feti Yıldız, AKP deputy chair Abdulhamit Gül, New Way party deputy chair Bülent Kaya, and CHP deputy leader Murat Emir.
According to parliamentary sources, the talks focused on organizational issues and preparations for the commission’s first official meeting, scheduled for Tuesday.
The commission, which was established as part of the announced “process for peace and democratic society,” is scheduled to officially begin its work on August 5 at 11:00 a.m. in the ceremonial hall of the parliament. The event will begin with an opening speech by Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş. The members will then comment on the foundations, objectives, and rules of procedure for the commission’s work. The exact working methods and structure of the body will be determined afterwards.
