The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) issued a written statement regarding the attacks on the Druze community in the rural areas of Damascus and Sweida.

The statement drew attention to the situation that emerged after the fall of the Baath regime: “This situation has raised hopes for the construction of a democratic, equal, decentralized, and unified Syria. However, it is evident that a neo-Ottoman-backed Muslim Brotherhood Sunni Islamic mentality has taken root in Damascus.”

TEV-DEM said: “More than 30,000 Alawite citizens have been sacrificed at the hands of the Damascus regime under the guise of operations against remnants of the regime. On the one hand, massacres are being committed, while on the other, the regime sheds tears for the victims as if they were killed independently of its own politics. In an effort to prevent further massacres and civil war, the SDF signed an agreement with Ahmad al-Sharaa. However, what we have seen so far raises doubts about the seriousness of Damascus. Recently, attacks have been carried out against the Druze components under the pretext of so-called uncontrollable groups; over 100 Druze civilians and security personnel have lost their lives in Ceremana, Ashrafieh, and rural Sweida.”

TEV-DEM called on all components of society “not to fall victim to genocide plans and policies” and urged the expansion of the struggle “for a democratic, equal, just, and decentralized Syria, to remove the darkness imposed on women, youth, peoples, and cultures.”

They also called on the international community, institutions, and democratic circles “to support the building of a democratic Syria, to stop Turkey and ISIS’s genocide plans, and to take action to prosecute those responsible.”
