ISIS, HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham), and Syrian National Army (SNA) mercenaries have perpetrated a massacre against the Druze population in Suwayda. Following the massacre, the people of Suwayda are burying their dead in silence. Due to the destruction caused by the mercenaries’ brutal attacks, the bodies cannot be preserved or buried in accordance with health standards.

Newly obtained images show dozens of bodies wrapped in white bags and left in open areas. The bodies are buried without complying with the most basic security and identification standards. According to information from the city, the bodies are hastily buried by local authorities and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent before their identities are determined and their families are notified. This situation is causing confusion and increasing suspicions.

Images and documents obtained from health centers in Suwayda reveal that the bodies are buried without any registration or supervision. Now, the burial of the bodies buried en masse has begun.

The images show at least twenty headless bodies lying in a disorderly manner, contrary to health regulations and principles of respect for the dead. The bodies have been gathered together and are awaiting burial.

According to information ANF received from residents of the city, there are no health professionals in the area, which means that the bodies cannot be registered and DNA analysis cannot be carried out.

‘These are not natural deaths’

A witness living in Suwayda said the following about the bodies gathered and buried anonymously: “These are not natural deaths; this is not a natural burial process. This is the deliberate destruction of identity.”

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent is currently conducting burial operations. The Red Crescent is transporting the bodies in convoys to random locations without identifying them. In some areas, the bodies are buried en masse and without identification.

It is important to highlight the role of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in this process, as no official statement has been made regarding these operations, nor has any information been provided to clarify what happened or respond to the growing allegations.

Our source in Suwayda shared the following information about what is happening: “There are still unburied bodies in all the streets. We cannot bury them. There are also unburied bodies in areas in Suwayda countryside where clashes have taken place. Some bodies have been buried in mass graves, but many remain in the streets, along walls, and in neighborhoods.”

Due to the chaos, confusion, and uncertainty in the city, it is unclear whether these bodies belong to civilians, detainees, or armed groups. These bodies, which could serve as evidence for the courts, are being dismembered, their identities destroyed, and secretly buried. This results in the perpetrators remaining unidentified and their fate remaining uncertain.

The people of Suwayda, meanwhile, ask, “We are not asking for the impossible, we just want to know the truth. Who were these people? Why are they nameless? Why were they buried in mass graves?”
