BBC Radio and podcast presenter Scott Mills has been removed from his broadcasting roles, prompting a swift reshuffle within the network. One of his responsibilities, hosting the video podcast Race Across the World: The Detour, has now been assigned to broadcaster and DJ Tyler West.

West, known for his work on Kiss Radio and appearances on Strictly Come Dancing, will launch the podcast on 2 April. The show will also feature Alfie Watts, winner of the fourth series of Race Across the World, offering travel tips and insights. The series, described as a younger and more energetic companion to the main television programme, will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds immediately after each new episode airs.

Mills had previously won the celebrity edition of Race Across the World alongside his husband, Sam Vaughn, and was set to present the podcast before his sudden exit. It has not yet been announced who will assume his BBC Radio 2 schedule.
Circumstances Behind the Exit
The BBC confirmed that Mills’ departure followed the emergence of new information regarding a historical police investigation from 2017. While the network was aware of the earlier inquiry, it stated that action was taken only after learning that the individual involved was under 16 at the time. The investigation had originally been closed in 2019 when prosecutors concluded there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.

Mills had taken over from Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 in January and faced public scrutiny following the announcement of his removal.
Scott Mills’ Statement
In his first public remarks since leaving the BBC, Mills emphasized his full cooperation with the previous investigation and expressed frustration over ongoing speculation. He explained that the police had submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined the evidence did not meet the threshold for charges.
Mills added that the allegation, which dates back nearly three decades, had been resolved years ago, and he requested privacy moving forward. He concluded by thanking colleagues and listeners for their support during this period.
