Vernon Kay has publicly addressed his separation from Tess Daly for the first time since the couple confirmed the end of their 22-year marriage.
Speaking during his BBC Radio 2 morning programme on Monday, the broadcaster thanked listeners for the messages of support he and Daly have received following their announcement last week.

Kay, 52, told listeners he appreciated the goodwill shown toward both him and Daly during what he described as a difficult period. The presenter returned to hosting duties after the pair confirmed on Friday that they had decided to separate amicably.

The television personalities, who married in 2003, share two daughters, Phoebe and Amber. In a joint statement released on social media, they said the decision had been made after considerable thought and mutual understanding.

The statement explained that the couple remain close friends and are focused on continuing their roles as supportive parents. It also stressed that no third party was involved in the separation and requested privacy for the family as they adjust to the change.

The announcement prompted a strong reaction online, with many fans expressing surprise and sadness over the news. Social media users described the pair as one of British television’s most familiar long-term couples and offered messages of support to the family.
Kay and Daly have long been regarded as one of the entertainment industry’s best-known partnerships, regularly appearing together at public events and speaking openly over the years about balancing family life with demanding broadcasting careers.

The split has also renewed attention on difficulties the couple faced earlier in their marriage. In 2010, Kay publicly apologised on his BBC Radio 1 show after it emerged he had sent inappropriate text messages to several women.
During the broadcast at the time, he admitted he had behaved “foolishly” and expressed regret for disappointing his family and listeners.
In interviews following the controversy, Daly spoke candidly about working through challenges in their relationship, describing the experience of dealing with personal issues in the public eye as particularly difficult.
Despite the separation, both Kay and Daly have indicated they intend to keep family life as stable as possible while remaining supportive of one another privately.
