The Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) Command issued a statement in memory of the martyred Commander Nûreddîn Sofî.

The statement said: “We have received the news of the martyrdom of Nûreddîn Sofî, one of the pioneers of the Rojava Revolution and one of Kurdistan’s brave sons. He was a leader in every revolutionary duty and effort; on the battlefield, a commander; in friendship, a loyal comrade. Until the final moments of his life, he wholeheartedly fought for the cause of freedom for oppressed peoples.”

The statement added: “With his loss, the Rojava Revolution has lost one of its main pillars, and the people of Kurdistan have lost one of their fearless sons who never hesitated in the struggle. The martyrdom of Nûreddîn Sofî holds a special meaning for the Yazidi community, because he was among the first to rush to the aid of the Yazidis during the period of the genocide (Ferman) in Shengal.

When Yazidis families were trapped between the mountains and the enemy, Nûreddîn Sofî was at the forefront in opening the humanitarian corridor between Rojava and Shengal. This corridor became a lifeline for tens of thousands of women, children, the elderly, and young people It was not merely a passage, but a road that transformed death into life and despair into hope. His determination and unwavering belief demonstrated that humanitarian and national duties cannot be separated from revolutionary duties.”

The statement continued: “Martyr Nûreddîn Sofî left a deep mark on the hearts of the people and proved that the struggle for freedom is not only about defending the land, but also about preserving dignity and human existence. The Yazidi community will remember him with gratitude and pass his story on to future generations as a symbol of sacrifice and courage.

As the Yazidi forces and community, we extend our deepest condolences to the martyr’s honorable family, his comrades in the YPG ranks, and to the peoples of Rojava and Kurdistan. We once again pledge to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs and to achieve the goals for which they gave their lives.”
