The Youth Assembly of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Diyarbakır (Amed) is organizing workshops across Kurdistan and Turkey under the theme “Pioneering Youth and Democratic Society.” The young participants are presenting their ideas and demands in order to play an active role in the peace process. Several of them shared their views on the process with ANF.

We will never give up the struggle

Avesta Ateş emphasized that the peace process is both profound and significant: “We are living through one of the deepest crises of this era. The capitalist system survives by plundering nature, and we are forced to take an ethical stand against it. At this very point, we need Öcalan’s defenses and perspectives. They become a source of hope for us, decoding the system’s inner workings.

Abdullah Öcalan’s recent call places a serious responsibility on young women, particularly in terms of organizing and mobilizing. As young women, we act accordingly. As young people, we come together with other young people to read, discuss, and share Öcalan’s writings. Our activities related to the process continue. Through various workshops, we express our ideas and contribute to the discussion. We are leading the construction of a democratic society based on Abdullah Öcalan’s perspective. We trust in him.

Of course, the system will continue its war to the very end, but we, as youth and as a people, will never give up our struggle. From here, I call on all young people: organize and help others organize!”

Great responsibility falls on young people

Berat Özdemir, a university student, emphasized that as young people, they strive to take part in every field of the struggle: “Events like these are very important for us, as they help youth understand Abdullah Öcalan and contribute to the ongoing process. The youth feel a strong sense of responsibility when it comes to embracing the process. Following the call made by the Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, youths must now approach the process with a conscious sense of duty. Young people are eager to take on this responsibility.

Öcalan’s call points toward a vision of shared life, and youth are playing a pioneering role in the pursuit of peace. The state must take the necessary steps in this regard.”
